Summer Camp 2009!
PARENT FAQs

Curriculum
Our curriculum is child-centered, providing experiences to enhance a child's natural development in the areas of art; music; science; cooking; nutrition; socialization; critical thinking; community; multicultural awareness and language arts skills.

Our Kindergarten Readiness Program is implemented in our Pre-Kindergarten classes and was created to better prepare our students for their entry into Kindergarten. Our Pre-K students will be experiencing many different areas of social interaction, group orientation and academic preparation through age specific lesson plans

Teacher Qualifications
Little Oak Preschool is very proud of its teachers and teacher assistants. The State of California requires that preschool teachers have a minimum of 12 college units in early childhood education or child development and a minimum of six months experience working in a licensed center. All of Little Oak's teachers meet or exceed this State requirement and the majority have their Bachelor's degrees and have had a minimum of two years experience in a preschool setting. All of our teachers and assistants are fingerprinted and pass a criminal background check prior to hiring.

Little Oak seeks to hire teachers and assistants who are passionate about working with children at the preschool level and who are energetic, nurturing, and creative and have a background in early childhood education.

Class Size
Little Oak strongly believes that class size is an important part of the overall environment of a classroom. Our ratios range from 1:4 in our toddler room, 1:6 in our two's classroom and 1:8 in our three's and pre-kindergarten classrooms. We are proud that our ratios fall well below the state mandated requirement of 1:12 in a preschool classroom. Each classroom has a minimum of two teachers and an assistant. Our unusually low ratios make it possible for our teachers to provide more time with each student and to incorporate more detailed projects in all areas of our curriculum.

Waiting List and School Tours
Little Oak schedules tours of our campus as space becomes available in a given classroom. If a waiting list exists for a specific room, interested parents are asked to complete a Wait List Form that will be kept on file until an opening becomes available which matches their needs. If we have a current opening that fits a parent's request, our Director, Jen Potmesil, will schedule a tour at that time. This policy is true for both our preschool and toddler room. If you would like to get on our waiting list please go to the Contact Us page to submit a waiting list form.

Summer Camp
Little Oak provides a Summer Camp program which begins mid-June and ends mid-August. The summer is broken up into two and four week sessions and enrollment is open to all children. Parents may choose a half-day, extended day or full day schedule that is two thru five days per week. Our Summer Camp is an opportunity for our continuing students to enhance what they have learned during the prior school year and for new and continuing students to experience a fun, creative, safe summer camp atmosphere. Each week of our summer camp is divided into fun age-appropriate themes.

Little Oak enhances it summer program with visitors such as My Petting Zoo; My Reptile Zoo; Happy Birds; magicians, etc. which are schuduled according to the particular weeks theme.
